Beggar's Banquet (Mono) (1968)

The album that returned the Stones to their roots after the psychedelic sojourn of Satanic Majesties! That said, they'd still never made anything like this. It's a return to the blues, sure, but only at it's root, and a largely acoustic flavour is in evidence. 'Sympathy For The Devil', 'Stray Cat Blues' and 'Street Fighting Man' all wander into new territory for the band, and there is also more of a country flavour in songs like 'Dear Doctor', 'No Expectations' and 'Factory Girl'. In my humble opinion, their best album!

  1. I just wanted to say thank you. This is a very unique blog and I love your idea.

You haven't posted for quite a long time now; hope you didn't run into a problem or feel discouraged by the lack of comments from your viewers.

  2. All I'd like to say is... thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! A friend of mine works for Universal and had me pitch a cd reissue of "Aftermath" to the head of the UK office. Disc One was the UK album in mono, Disc Two the US stereo album, with bonus tracks of all singles and songs left off each release in mono/stereo accordingly. The guy said ABKCO didn't care to expand their reissues from what they'd done in 2003. This was 2008. Now that the Beatles and Dylan mono sets are out, and that Allen Klein kicked the bucket, things could change. I'm sure you've also seen the heavy-duty vinyl box that covers the UK LPs from 1964-69 (including the EPs), and that you also know everything's mono until "Aftermath" and and beyond? GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!! In the meantime, thankyouthankyouthankyou! It's so great to hear "Down the Road Apiece" without that super lame reverb, and I wasn't even aware there was a mono version of "Let It Bleed". God's work truly done, sir.

  3. I'm updating all these links for better versions - awesome that you pitched ABKCO - idiots wouldn't listen to you?!!! Hopefully they'll come to their senses soon - watch out for better versions coming shortly - a new vinyl rip of Aftermath is now up btw!
